Mission
The research activities of NIT are multidisciplinary, linking basic and applied research to more complex air transportation issues, focused on Air Traffic Flow Management, Air Transportation Infrastructures (Planning, Operation, Management and Economics), Airline Operations (Management and Economics), Aviation Safety (including Weather Conditions) and Security, Human Factors in Aviation, Flight Instrumentation, and Environmental Impact of Aviation.
NIT undertakes interdisciplinary research activities involving other modes of transportation too, and exploring concepts asHVAC Maintenance intermodality and interoperability. To achieve its objectives

Air Transportation and Airports
Aircraft Operations
Specific Objectives:
- To improve knowledge in new concepts/design of airships for new commercial applications.
- To promote knowledge in flight modelling to simulate new aircraft systems and concepts.
- To develop knowledge to improve helicopter firefighting operations.
Flight Safety and Security
Specific Objectives:
- To improve knowledge on pilot’s psychophysiological behaviour and its impact on flight performance and safety.
- To promote knowledge on emergency protocols and air transport constrains for passengers with reduced mobility in airport terminals/facilities, airport-aircraft transfers and aircrafts.
